Albert Einstein once said, “God doesn’t play dice with the world.”
While that’s a comforting thought for me, it prompts a question that is not so comforting.
Am I playing dice with my life or business? Am I just rolling the dice, or am I taking steps to influence the outcome of my life or business?
As I prepare for a breakout I will be presenting at the Building Champions Experience this September, I am reminded of the three component parts of the event – Reflect, Plan and Connect.
Am I Reflecting, Planning, and Connecting with other people, or am I just not going through the motions hoping for a positive outcome?
Reflect
When is the last time you invested time to reflect? A time of reflection is a time to reconsider past intentions, actions and results. This is important because it helps you to remember and reinforce positive actions which were taken in the past and the result of those actions. It helps you to focus on the good and learn from the not so good.
Action: Invest 30 minutes reflecting on the previous two days. Take notes in your journal or wherever you capture notes. What have you learned?
Plan
You may have heard the cliche: “If you fail to plan, you are planning to fail.” There is no doubt that a well thought out plan can help you achieve any goal. Having a plan helps you stay on track. It serves as the guardrails for the journey down the road toward success.
Action: Take time to plan. Determine one or more goals that you want to accomplish and start putting together a series of actions to give you the best opportunity to succeed.
Connect
English clergyman and poet, John Donne, once said, “No man is an Island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the Continent, a part of the main; if a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe is the less, as well as if a promontory were, as well as if a manor of thy friends or of thine own were; any man’s death diminishes me, because I am involved in Mankind; And therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; It tolls for thee.”
We are all interconnected. No man is an island. We need each other, and therefore we need to connect with each other. Who do you need to connect, or re-connect, with today?
Action: Connect (or re-connect) with someone today. Find a reason to connect with another person and do it today. Your life will be richer for the investment in connection.
